Possible Freezing Rain

The weather network predicts an overcast day with possible freezing rain this morning. (Not what I want to hear!) High is expected to be -1 degrees C (30 degrees F) with overnight temperatures of -6 degrees C (21 degrees F).

Snowy and Cold

Light snow will continue to cover the ground for most of the day. The early morning temperature of -17 degrees C (2 degrees F) will go to a high of -8 degrees C (18 degrees F). Overnight freezing rain is expected with slightly higher temperatures of -7 degrees C (19 degrees F).
(Not what I like to anticipate!)

Sunny, Very Cold But Warming (a Bit!)

The day looks lovely - clear blue sunny sky. But the temperature is very cold.

At 8am it's -20 degrees C (-4 degrees F). Today's high is expected to be - 13 degrees C (9 degrees F) with an overnight temperature of -15 degrees C (5 degrees F).

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

Snowy Day

The snow will continue - it snowed all night.

The high today is our current (5:20 am) -3 degrees C (26 degrees F). The temperature will drop during the day.

The overnight temperature is forecast to be -19 degrees C (-2 degrees F).

The good news? Tomorrow is expected to be a sunny day!

It's Winter Outdoors

The snow is here to stay and more snow is expected!

But it's warmer. Our high today is 2 degrees C (36 degrees F). Overnight temperatures are -6 degrees C (21 degrees F). Tomorrow is expected to be a colder day... and a storm may be brewing! There is a storm warning for southern Ontario. That usually means from Niagara Falls and Windsor to Toronto. Will it move farther north and reach us as well?!

Sunny "Boxing Day"

A lot of snow fell yesterday - making driving conditions difficult, as many streets were not plowed, due to the holiday.

Today is expected to be warmer and sunnier. Our pre-dawn temperature of -8 degrees C (17 degrees F) is expected to rise to -3 degrees C (27 degrees F) and then rise even more to an overnight temperature of -1 degree C (30 degrees F).

(The temperature changes seem much more dramatic in Fahrenheit than Celsius!)

Snowy Christmas Day

Light snow is falling in Ottawa this morning. At 9:15 am it is -12 degrees C (9 degrees F),

The temperature is expected to go up to -1 degree C (30 degrees F). Overnight the temperature is expected to drop to -5 degrees C (23 degrees F).

Saturday, December 24, 2011

Sunny "Christmas Eve" Day

The weather today is sunny, clear and cold. It's currently - 17 degrees C (0 degrees F) at 9 am.

The high is expected to reach -11 degrees C (12 degrees F). Overnight low is forecast to be -13 degrees C (9 degrees F).

Friday, December 23, 2011

Snow Again!

The day started out snowy - but has turned to clear skies.

The high is our current mid-morning -6 degrees C (20 degrees F) with temperatures dropping all day and an overnight temperature of -17 degrees C (1 degree F)... I think winter is really here!

Sun, Cloud, Rain, Snow

Today's weather forecast has it all: sun, cloud, rain and snow! The current (8am) temperature is 0 degrees C (32 degrees F).

The weathernetwork says we have cloud - but I see blue skies overhead! The temperature is expected to go down this morning (with sunny skies)... to -2 degrees C (28 degrees F). Then this afternoon rain is expected to arrive and the temperature will go up to 3 degrees C (37 degrees F). Overnight we can expect snow flurries and temperatures of -8 degrees C (18 degrees F)...

It's so changeable! No wonder Canadians are preoccupied with talking about the weather - it affects everything we do!

But my big question is: does this mean that the ice from yesterday's freezing rain will all melt before I go out? Or am I at risk of falling?!

Shortest Day of the Year... Freezing Rain

One of the dangers of mild weather is that instead of snow, we get freezing rain. It is currently overcast, but freezing rain is expected to begin around 7 am and continue all day - until it turns to rain or snow overnight. The pre-dawn temperature is -7 degrees C (18 degrees F). The high today is supposed to be 0 degrees C (32 degrees F).

At 8 am, our neighborhood is getting light snow - but there is still a freezing rain warning in effect. The overnight temperature is expected to be -2 degrees C (28 degrees F).

Sunny But Cold

It's looks like we're going to have a sunny but cold kind of day. The pre-dawn temperature at 6:45 am is -9 degrees C (15 degrees F).

The high today will be -6 degrees C (21 degrees F), going down to -8 degrees C (18 degrees F) overnight.

Light Snow... And / Or Rain

The weather forecast is for light snow - which will possibly turn to rain as the day gets warmer. (Hopefully there will be no freezing rain in the "mixed precipitation.")

At 6 am (in the dark) the temperature is -1 degree C (29 degrees F). But it will go up to 3 degrees C (37 degrees F) later in the day.

This is what mid-afternoon looked like... Windy, but otherwise not too bad. The overnight temperature is supposed to be -10 degrees C (14 degrees F).

Sunny But Colder

The pink sky in the east this morning made me wonder if there was a storm brewing.

The only folk wisdom I know regarding weather is:

Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.
Red sky at night, sailors delight.

But there is no snow in today's forecast by the Weather Network. They predict a high of -7 degrees C (19 degrees F) today, that temperature remaining more or less unchanged all night until more snow arrives Monday.

Sunny and Cold

Light snow fell overnight. (I wonder if it will stay.)

The day ahead is expected to be sunny but cold. Currently it's -12 degrees C (9 degrees F). The afternoon high is forecast to be -9 degrees C (16 degrees F), going down to -16 degrees C (3 degrees F) overnight.

Another Cloudy Day

The online weather site tells me it's lightly raining - though it's too early for me to see. At 6:15 am, it's still dark out. The good news, however, is that the forecast for the day is cloud - not rain.

The day's high is our current temperature of 3 degrees C (39 degrees F). The temperature is expected to drop all day with an expected overnight temperature of -12 degrees C (10 degrees F).

So winter may be on its way! (But yesterday we did break a local record for that day. Temperatures in Ottawa reached 10 degrees C (50 degrees F). The previous record was 9.7 degrees C for December 15 in Ottawa.)

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Windy Day

The wind is shaking the trees in our neighborhood - impossible to capture moving branches and the sound of the wind in still photos!

It isn't raining as I type this at 8:30 am - though the weather forecast is for a rainy day. High today is predicted to be 10 degrees C (50 degrees F) with an overnight temperature of 1 degree C (34 degrees F).

Later... We did reach a record-breaking temperature of 10 degrees C (50 degrees F) today!

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Cloudy Day

The weather forecast is for a cloudy day with a high of 2 degrees C (36 degrees F) - and the temperature is expected to be the same overnight! The cloud must be blanketing the warmth in!

It was a "misty, moisty" day.

Light Rain... Perhaps Freezing Drizzle

The weather forecast today calls for light rain and freezing drizzle. That's always the risk when temperatures hover around the freezing mark. I have been enjoying long walks over the past (snow-free) week, so this is going to "dampen" my day's plans! The predicted high is 2 degrees C (36 degrees F) with an overnight temperature of -2 degrees C (28 degrees F). The good news: tomorrow is supposed to be sunny again!

Beautiful Sunny December Day

Today is absolutely amazing outside...

I just had to go for a walk! The high is 4 degrees C (39 degrees F) with overnight temperatures of -3 degrees C (27 degrees F).

Sunday, December 11, 2011

Sunny Day

Another mainly sunny day ahead. The high today is +1 degree C (34 degrees F) with an overnight temperature of -1 degree C (30 degrees F).

Looks like a nice day! Not much snow on the ground.

Saturday, December 10, 2011

Sunny Saturday

A mainly sunny day ahead: Highs of -2 degrees C (28 degrees F) with overnight temperatures of -5 degrees C (23 degrees F).

Here is the 7:30 am sunrise!

Shades of Grey

Grey skies, white snow sprinkled on the ground... In the early morning light, it looks like different shades of grey.

The high today is supposed to be 1 degree C (34 degrees F) with an overnight low of -5 degrees C (23 degrees F).

Sunny Day

Last night's pink sunset indicated a lovely day today...

The early morning clouds - pictured below at dawn - have mostly disappeared, leaving a pale blue sky with a few puffy clouds - what I call "Simpson's" sky because it looks like the opening scene from The Simpson's TV show.

There is a little fresh snow on the ground.

The high today is expected to go up to 1 degree C (34 degrees F) with an overnight low of -2 degrees C (28 degrees F).

Light Snow

Light snow is falling.

In the early dawn I noticed animal paw prints on our deck and wondered what animal crossed in the night. Snow prints make me more aware that nocturnal animals are out there prowling, even in winter. Maybe it was a neighborhood cat - or a raccoon..

Terry says the snow is here to stay, as temperatures remain below freezing. Today's high is our current temperature -1 degree C (29 degrees F) and the overnight temperature is projected to be -5 degrees C (23 degrees F).

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Light Snow

We woke up to see some snow on the ground...

The predicted high for today is 0 degrees C (32 degrees F). Overnight temperatures will be -3 degrees C (27 degrees F).

Perhaps the snow is here to stay!

Monday, December 5, 2011

Misty But Mild

The air outdoors is very mild this morning, and there is a light mist in the air...

The high for today is the current (8:30 am) temperature, 8 degrees C (46 degrees F). The temperature is expected to fall during the day. Overnight temperatures are to go down to -1 degree C (30 degrees F), with a possibility of snow flurries - the rain turning to snow, I guess. It might be a nice morning to go for a walk - before temperatures drop.

Sunday, December 4, 2011

Partly Cloudy Day

The dawn is breaking on a partly cloudy day. There may be showers - not snow - this afternoon, a sign that temperatures are above freezing. Today's afternoon high is expected to be 8 degrees C (46 degrees F) and the overnight temperature is predicted to be 5 degrees C (41 degrees F).

Saturday, December 3, 2011

Sunny But Cool

The sun is already shining!

The high is supposed to go up to 2 degrees C (36 degrees F) this afternoon - with temperatures of 1 degree C (34 degrees F) overnight, though the wind will make it feel colder. That's above freezing...

I wonder if our remaining snow will melt.

Again... Snow on the Ground

At the first light of dawn, I glanced outside to see... WHITE!

(Really?! There's snow on the ground?! Was this predicted?! Will it last this time?)

The weather network says we are having freezing rain... (Though to me, it looks like snow!) NOT NICE!... But the forecast high for today is 1 degree C (34 degrees F) with an overnight temperature of -9 degrees C (16 degrees F). So the ice from the freezing rain may melt.. Or it may become a slippery base hidden under snow!

Welcome December - With No Snow!

The weather today is pretty amazing.

No snow on the ground... Sunny skies... And a high of +1 degree C (34 degrees F), going down to an overnight low of -1 degree C (30 degrees F). Definitely my kind of winter weather!
