Possible Freezing Rain
The weather network predicts an overcast day with possible freezing rain this morning. (Not what I want to hear!) High is expected to be -1 degrees C (30 degrees F) with overnight temperatures of -6 degrees C (21 degrees F).

Snowy and Cold
Light snow will continue to cover the ground for most of the day. The early morning temperature of -17 degrees C (2 degrees F) will go to a high of -8 degrees C (18 degrees F). Overnight freezing rain is expected with slightly higher temperatures of -7 degrees C (19 degrees F).
(Not what I like to anticipate!)

It's Winter Outdoors
The snow is here to stay and more snow is expected!

But it's warmer. Our high today is 2 degrees C (36 degrees F). Overnight temperatures are -6 degrees C (21 degrees F). Tomorrow is expected to be a colder day... and a storm may be brewing! There is a storm warning for southern Ontario. That usually means from Niagara Falls and Windsor to Toronto. Will it move farther north and reach us as well?!

Sunny "Boxing Day"
A lot of snow fell yesterday - making driving conditions difficult, as many streets were not plowed, due to the holiday.

Today is expected to be warmer and sunnier. Our pre-dawn temperature of -8 degrees C (17 degrees F) is expected to rise to -3 degrees C (27 degrees F) and then rise even more to an overnight temperature of -1 degree C (30 degrees F).
(The temperature changes seem much more dramatic in Fahrenheit than Celsius!)

Sun, Cloud, Rain, Snow
Today's weather forecast has it all: sun, cloud, rain and snow! The current (8am) temperature is 0 degrees C (32 degrees F).

The weathernetwork says we have cloud - but I see blue skies overhead! The temperature is expected to go down this morning (with sunny skies)... to -2 degrees C (28 degrees F). Then this afternoon rain is expected to arrive and the temperature will go up to 3 degrees C (37 degrees F). Overnight we can expect snow flurries and temperatures of -8 degrees C (18 degrees F)...

It's so changeable! No wonder Canadians are preoccupied with talking about the weather - it affects everything we do!

But my big question is: does this mean that the ice from yesterday's freezing rain will all melt before I go out? Or am I at risk of falling?!

Shortest Day of the Year... Freezing Rain
One of the dangers of mild weather is that instead of snow, we get freezing rain. It is currently overcast, but freezing rain is expected to begin around 7 am and continue all day - until it turns to rain or snow overnight. The pre-dawn temperature is -7 degrees C (18 degrees F). The high today is supposed to be 0 degrees C (32 degrees F).

At 8 am, our neighborhood is getting light snow - but there is still a freezing rain warning in effect. The overnight temperature is expected to be -2 degrees C (28 degrees F).

Light Snow... And / Or Rain
The weather forecast is for light snow - which will possibly turn to rain as the day gets warmer. (Hopefully there will be no freezing rain in the "mixed precipitation.")
At 6 am (in the dark) the temperature is -1 degree C (29 degrees F). But it will go up to 3 degrees C (37 degrees F) later in the day.

This is what mid-afternoon looked like... Windy, but otherwise not too bad. The overnight temperature is supposed to be -10 degrees C (14 degrees F).

Sunny But Colder
The pink sky in the east this morning made me wonder if there was a storm brewing.

The only folk wisdom I know regarding weather is:
Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.
Red sky at night, sailors delight.
But there is no snow in today's forecast by the Weather Network. They predict a high of -7 degrees C (19 degrees F) today, that temperature remaining more or less unchanged all night until more snow arrives Monday.

Another Cloudy Day
The online weather site tells me it's lightly raining - though it's too early for me to see. At 6:15 am, it's still dark out. The good news, however, is that the forecast for the day is cloud - not rain.

The day's high is our current temperature of 3 degrees C (39 degrees F). The temperature is expected to drop all day with an expected overnight temperature of -12 degrees C (10 degrees F).
So winter may be on its way! (But yesterday we did break a local record for that day. Temperatures in Ottawa reached 10 degrees C (50 degrees F). The previous record was 9.7 degrees C for December 15 in Ottawa.)

Windy Day
The wind is shaking the trees in our neighborhood - impossible to capture moving branches and the sound of the wind in still photos!

It isn't raining as I type this at 8:30 am - though the weather forecast is for a rainy day. High today is predicted to be 10 degrees C (50 degrees F) with an overnight temperature of 1 degree C (34 degrees F).
Later... We did reach a record-breaking temperature of 10 degrees C (50 degrees F) today!

Light Rain... Perhaps Freezing Drizzle
The weather forecast today calls for light rain and freezing drizzle. That's always the risk when temperatures hover around the freezing mark. I have been enjoying long walks over the past (snow-free) week, so this is going to "dampen" my day's plans! The predicted high is 2 degrees C (36 degrees F) with an overnight temperature of -2 degrees C (28 degrees F). The good news: tomorrow is supposed to be sunny again!
